Before your weight loss journey begins, it’s a great idea to take a photo of how you look now. As you shed the pounds, you can regularly refer to the image and congratulate yourself on how far you have come. 

The best way to take a photo of yourself is to get someone else to do it for you, but it doesn’t have to be a professional photographer. If your only option is to use a mirror, then make sure you hold the camera off to the side, so the flash doesn’t flood the image, and you don’t block your face. 

Another good tip for a mirror shot is to not look at your reflection, but instead, focus your gaze on the lens of the camera just like you would if someone else was taking the shot. 

Good lighting is essential for a before photo, and make sure you aren’t in front of a distracting background – a plain wall is ideal. 

The attire you wear for your photo is also essential. A loose-fitting gown will hide how well your efforts are paying off. Instead, go for a swimsuit or form hugging outfit for best results – active wear or gym clothes would be perfect. 

Some people are tempted to photograph themselves in their underwear, but this may make you feel uncomfortable if your photo is going to be publicly viewed by anybody other than close family. 

One photo is not enough. You will want to record your journey with regular snaps of your progress. For a more accurate picture of your progress, always take the photo under the same conditions as your first image.
